Summer Maintenance Checklist

We're Closed

The grueling summer heat can be draining for both people AND cars. Just like humans, our vehicles get exhausted in the sun, and need time to cool and relax, in order to perform efficiently. If neglected in the proper maintenance department, your vehicle can break down due to debilitation. The last thing you want is to be stuck on the side of the road in feverish summer temperatures. Following our summer maintenance checklist will get your vehicle ready for a road trip and out of the service center!

Here at Autoproved we say, bring on the heat! Our Allentown dealership wants to help you keep your vehicle in the best possible condition, no matter the condition! We are giving you our service checklist, to make driving your vehicle a breeze this summer! Don’t forget to take advantage of our Autoproved Service Center special offers.

 1. Give Your Vehicle A Wash

There is nothing better than driving in the sun knowing your vehicle is nice and clean! We recommend a good exterior wash once a week during the hot summer months. Things like dirt, sand, and humidity can build up in the crevices of your brake lines and engine. These factors cause rust to build within your vehicle, reducing the longevity of your vehicle’s life.

 2. Give Your Car A Wax

Just like humans, our cars feel exhausted when left out in the burning sun. If accessible, try to park your vehicle in a shaded area as frequently you can. This will provide protection for your car when exposed to high temperatures.

If there is no shaded option when parking your vehicle, dashboard sunshades are a great option! These shades protect your dashboard against the sun’s ultraviolet rays, and keeps it nice and cool. Visit our Allentown used car dealership and service center. Our skilled technicians can offer any assistance or recommendations.

 3. Routinely Check Your Vehicle's Temperature Gauge

Here in Allentown, summers can be very hot! This PA heat can exhaust your car. To check if your Honda CR-V, Toyota Tundra, or whatever vehicle you drive is not overheating, look at the  temperature gauge! On your new or used vehicle, the temperature gauge is located on the dashboard of your car, truck, or SUV.

When correctly displayed, the gauge will have a needle pointing toward the center. If your car is overheating, the needle will point toward “Hot”. If this happens, pull your vehicle over and allow the car to cool down. If your car is overheating, bring it to our Allentown Vehicle Service Center.

 4. Examine Coolant Levels

It is vital to check your vehicle’s coolant levels when the weather gets warmer . To do so, open the hood of your car and check for the coolant reservoir. The coolant level is shown by the indicator lines within the reservoir. If low, add 50% Coolant and 50% water in the coolant cap. Never apply coolant to a hot engine! Always wait for the engine to cool, before applying. If you aren't comfortable doing this, one of our technicians here at Autoproved will be happy to assist you!

 5. Ensure Fluids Are at an Appropriate Level

As mentioned above, keeping your fluids relatively new and freshly flushed is a good idea for keeping your vehicle cool. In that same vein, you want to make sure that they are kept at a decent level. That doesn’t just mean coolant, either! That includes motor oil, transmission fluid, and other fluids. This will help keep your vehicle’s moving parts cool while on the road. Service your vehicle at our used car dealership near Bethlehem, PA.

 6. Replace Your Windshield Wiper

Yes, that’s right, a straightforward wiper replacement can benefit you this summer. Hot Pennsylvania summer rain can carry nasty debris and humidity to the windshield of your vehicle. When used, worn wipers will smudge the debris, causing streaks. This can affect your vision when on the road.

A low-cost, proactive, and effective solution to this issue is a simple replacement of wipers. Directions on how to do this can be found in your vehicle’s owner's manual. However, it can be a bit of a tricky task. During a routine service or maintenance, one of our Lehigh technicians will be happy to apply new wipers on your vehicle for free, with a purchase from our accessories department! Located near Bethlehem, PA.

 7. Keep Tires Inflated

Driving on flattening tires is a quick way to lead them to overheat and eventually blowout. Especially when road temperatures are extremely high. Tires normally lose one pound of pressure each month, due to normal seepage. Therefore, it is vital you make sure to check their pressure, including the spare tires, to ensure they're up to the manufacturer's specifications. Check your vehicle’s owner’s manual for pressure recommendation and the correct tire information label. If you need tires replaced, we’ll be more than willing to assist you!
